In high schools, colleges, and universities in the USA there are the mandatory classes and then you have the elective classes. Elective means it is chosen by the student rather than being required to be taken. You would have a set of classes that you must choose from, but you are allowed which ones you do choose.
When it comes to tax usage in the USA, the taxes are taken from business and individuals. I will be speaking about the individuals. People have things they would like to see with more funding such as NASA while they would not like to pay into Planned Parenthood. Some people would like to see green energy funding while others would like to see funding go into fixing the infrastructure of the country such as roads, bridges, water pipes, sewer systems, etc.
It seems that there are a lot of things that the USA government funds with tax money that are not necessary or of interest to all people while there are a lot of things that are of interest and use to all USA citizens.
Some things that are required to all:
- Roads
- Bridges
- Police
- Fire fighters
- Road cleaning crews
Some things that are not required to all:
- Planned Parenthood
- Funding of various non-critical studies
- NASA
- Social Programs
It would be nice if when a person sets up their income tax paperwork that they would be able to elect some of where there tax money is going. They could shift around x amount of their money to whatever they wish. They can keep it all as the government has it setup as a default or they can choose to pick what they want to fund and remove funding from things they don’t want to fund. If you wanted to fund things that already were things that were required to fund because you feel they don’t get enough help, that is also part of this.
In this system you would be able to throw more money at research and design for military, the military itself, military veteran help programs, NASA, etc. You could take all the money from NASA and put it towards Planned Parenthood. It would also leave money where it needs to be such as infrastructure, police, fire fighters, etc.
You’d be able to fund what you believe your money should be going to to improve the world in ways you see fit.
