There are many ideas on how to sequester carbon by gathering the carbon into a storable form and then store it. Those are two big steps. Then you have the cost of making those things happen. You can however use algae blooms and spike their growth with simple chemicals but that jacks with the ocean itself. So why not remove the issue from the solution and use the solution?
A giant set of lakes all over the world that regularly get spiked and grow giant algae blooms that will be algae farms. People will be able to be algae farmers and sequester massive amounts of carbon and produce a lot of plant mass that is pretty uniform in consistency. It can be scrapped off the top of the pools. Elon Musk has mentioned the acidification problem as well.
Algae farms are the solution. Algae blooms in the ocean have been tried by a scientist and people got pretty upset because it causes acidification. The algae is used because it uses the CO2 to create its mass just like most plants do.
You use iron powder pretty much to feed the algae and it explodes in growth and sucks up bunch of CO2 to grow. So you trap CO2 in a plant mass that grows very very quickly using very simple food. The problem is the acidification, not the process. The idea of trapping the carbon in a different form so it can be stored somewhere other than our air that causes greenhouses gasses is called carbon sequestration.
You can store the algae with some water underground in previous places that oil and natural gas have come out of. You could put it in other underground spaces. You need to make it so that the algae cannot decompose and have the carbon recombine with oxygen. The water and underground storage can keep it from going back into the air. The carbon from animals and plants that were turned into coal and oil that got trapped underground for a long time had sequestered a lot of carbon. Now we dig it up and drill it out and burn it. We have to put equal amounts or more back into the ground.
Solve the acidification and you solve the problem. Find large land mass areas that can have giant more or less pools made into them. Like giant rice patty farms but for algae.
Do this in deserts. You may think that the water will just evaporate. It won’t really that much if you build the setup correctly. You need windbreaks in the area to create a micro-climate. Basically you want to create a man made oasis that has a giant algae bloom farm setup in the middle of it.
- Example of a micro-climate oasis

You make the wind break barrier using solar power to power a simple robotic vehicle that uses a giant Fresnel lens and optics array to melt sand it gathers into a wall format. You essentially print a giant wall out of sand using the power of the sun and a simple program on the robotic vehicle. There is a sun powered 3D printer made that uses the sun to to sinter the sand like I am talking about doing.
The basin of the large pool can also be created using the sintering process to more or less make one giant glass swimming pool. You can even create water channels and structures out of the sintered blocks of sand.
